Breaux Bridge—By popular demand, Whiskey River Jitterbug™ is back for its third series at Teche Center for the Arts. The style of dance, with its attitude, hip swinging, and fancy footwork, will get you noticed on the dance floor!
Skilled dance teachers Michael Seider and Anna Sapozhnikova will take you step-by-step through the basics and latest variations of this Southwest Louisiana jitterbug style kicked up by the irresistible dancehall rhythms from across Cajun bayous and prairies. Their classes provide clear instruction and practice dancing with the instructors and other class members. Both couples and singles are welcome to attend.
Seider learned to dance and now polishes his steps at roadhouses, clubs, festivals, and trail rides across the prairies of Southwest Louisiana. He has taught Zydeco and Cajun dancing for over three decades. A skilled interpreter and devoted student of both traditional and evolving Louisiana dance styles, he incorporates the newest steps and styles into his dancing and instruction. His repertoire includes shuffles, two-steps, jitterbugs, waltzes, baisse-bas, and other regional dance variations. He has been an instructor at Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Roots Camp (Catskills), the Augusta Heritage Festival, Living Traditions (Seattle), Country Dance and Song Society (New York), Strawberry Park (Connecticut), Buffalo Jambalaya (West Virginia), Puget Sound Urban Dance Camp, North Cornwall Cajun Zydeco Festival (England), and the Original Zydeco Cruise, and featured in many workshops around the country.
His teaching partner and wife, Anna Sapozhnikova, studied classical dance forms as a child and eventually performed folk-dances in her native Russia as part of a regional ensemble. Her friendly, approachable teaching style makes learning fun. Anna and Michael met in one of his dance classes at a festival in Connecticut. The couple lives in Breaux Bridge.
