Breaux Bridge—Cade Community Center in Cade, LA, was the place to be on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, when Teche Center for the Arts presented the first-ever ST. MARTIN PARISH MEGA TRIVIA GAME NIGHT hosted by Senator Fred Mills. The night was a fun community-spirited, parish-wide event of friendly competition with proceeds going to Teche Center for the Arts’ operating and programming budget.
Senator Fred Mills entertained the nearly 400 guests with hilarious Cajun humor, during challenging rounds of trivia, a raffle of door prizes, a silent and live auction, art made by local art students, live on-stage painting by Amanda Montesano-artist that sold for over $1000. There was excellent Cajun fare by local restaurants such as Tante Marie’s Restaurant and Café, Café Sydnie Mae, Poches and Buck and Johnny’s, along with beverage station sponsored by Hancock-Whitney Bank, popcorn, music, and lots of laughter that made for a memorable and exciting night.
Board Chairperson Coatney Raymond spoke about TCA in a heartwarming introductory speech. She introduced a video highlight of the unique sights and sounds of St. Martin Parish locals and locales, illustrating to the audience of supporters what TCA does to fulfill its mission to be the primary home and stage to showcase arts, music, history, education, and Cajun and Creole culture.
The winner of the evening’s top prize was Brown & Brown Insurance.
Event Chairperson, Jennifer Angelle reflected, “In St. Martin Parish, our 100% homegrown unique appeal is our authentic culture. It is worth celebrating and passing on to the next generation, which is why the support of our community is so greatly needed. We ask. The community overwhelming responds once again this year in a big way with their time, talent and treasure. Over 40 committee members and 400 folks in attendance. It’s a testimony to them believing in the magic of our mission!”
Teche Center of the Arts wishes to thank community supporters and major sponsors: City of Breaux Bridge, St. Martin Parish Government, St. Martin Parish Tourism, FM BANK, Hancock-Whitney Bank, and CLECO.
Construction is underway at TCA to install permanent restrooms and a handicap accessible ramp. With the donated professional services of CMAC Construction and Angelle Architects, combined with generous financial community support, a $50,000 capital improvement to the building will be completed in late 2019. A celebration and ribbon-cutting/grand re-opening is set to happen in 2020.
