Mini Monthly Writers’ Retreat

Mini Monthly Writers’ Retreat

First Tuesdays of the month, starting June 4, 2019—ongoing
$5 per session suggested donation to TCA

Teche Center for the Arts offers Mini Monthly Writers’ Retreat, a once-a-month, two-hour retreat from pressures of daily life to dedicate time, energy and focus to creative writing pursuits.

Mini Monthly Writers’ Retreat endeavors to be a working group for creative writers to generate new work, discover and develop their own unique voice, and participate in guided discussions in a non-judgmental, supportive, and inspiring atmosphere. Whether you blog, write creative nonfiction essays, short or long-form fiction, or poetry, the generative format and skill-building aim of the project will meet the needs of most writerly-types.

Facilitator Clare L. Martin, assistant to Executive Director Sandra Sarr of TCA, is an accomplished teaching artist, author, editor, and poet. Martin welcomes writers and “wannabees” in the community to a nourishing “retreat” that centers on the transformational and empowering art of creative writing. As Martin reflects, “Too often we beat ourselves up for not writing. There will be none of that here. We want TCA to be a welcoming space for all artists, including writers, who often work in solitude. Mini Monthly Writers’ Retreat will nurture a love of words and our essential creative spirits.”

Mini Monthly Writers’ Retreat is appropriate for older teens (17+) and adults. Those who want to commit to writing for pleasure or professional development are welcome. Attendance is at one’s leisure, although people will want to attend regularly for the rich experience and the rewards of community.

This program was developed in support of TCA’s mission. A $5 suggested donation to TCA is requested but not required.
Bring something to write with and on. Pen and paper are recommended, and not tablets, laptops, or phones.
