Orphan Train Museum Presentation

Join us for a presentation on the Louisiana Orphan Train Museum by Martha Aubert and James Douget.  Martha Aubert is currently President of the Louisiana Orphan Train Society, Inc.Louisiana Orphan

She is a longtime active volunteer at the Louisiana Orphan Train Museum in Opelousas , Louisiana .

She is very passionate about the history of The Orphan Train Movement in America from 1854 to 1929.  She enjoys spreading this untold history to others living the mission of the Society to inform and educate the public.  She is the granddaughter of a Louisiana orphan train rider Emily Kingsley Bergeron Von Bodungen.

She is a Registered Nurse of 39 years and a mother of five children.  For relaxation she enjoys volunteering, spending time with her children, and attending Catholic Mass.

James Douget is currently a Board Member of the Louisiana Orphan Train Society, Inc.

He has a passion for orphan train history and is also active in historical preservation.  He is best known for helping preserve the historic St. Landry Catholic Church cemetery.

He is the nephew of Louisiana orphan train riders Christina Geitz Douget West and Dominic Yenley Douget.

He is a retired longtime educator and coach of over 42.5  years, including many years of teaching history.   He enjoys following LSU sports and being a father and grandfather.

The Louisiana Orphan Train Museum is dedicated to collecting and preserving those items that tell the history of The Louisiana Orphan Train Riders who came by train from The New York Foundling Hospital.
