No door sales due to COVID-19 precautions.\nAshley Dugas Artist Statement \nMy name is Ashley Dugas. I’m a freshman at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL). Growing up in a family that had multiple Cajun musicians, I started dancing as soon as I could walk. It soon became my passion. I’ve attempted to get on stage a few times to play music but realize that my heart and my feet belong on the dance floor.\n\nWhen I turned 15 years old, I joined the Cajun French Music Association (CFMA) and became the Teen Queen. Two years later, I became the Miss Queen and still hold the title to this day. The journey of being in this organization has given me the opportunity to meet new people, dance at numerous festivals, and explore what others think of our Cajun culture.\n\nMy Pop was the late, great Mr. Nolan Dugas.  He and my grandma, Geraldine Dugas, brought my dad and his siblings up in the Cajun culture. Later, my dad, Kevin Dugas, became involved in performing Cajun music. He’s been in the band Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys for almost 30 years, while also playing with High Performance since 2009.\n\nMy mom (Alma Dugas) and dad (Kevin Dugas) have both played a big role in my life as well, by inspiring me to do something I love. Over the years, I’ve won multiple first and second-place Cajun Dance contests, and awards for Cajun Dance through the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. My main goal in teaching this class is not to be strict, but to teach you the techniques I’ve learned from all of the people I’ve danced with. I want to set an example to everyone that Cajun Dance is meant to be fun. It may be hard work to learn but there’s a great reward in the end.\n\n\n
